The Black-crested Titmouse (also known as the Mexican Titmouse), is native to southern Texas, Oklahoma and east-central Mexico. The bird is around 6" long, with rusty flanks, gray upper parts, and a whitish belly. The male has a long, dark black crest that is usually erect, while the female's crest is not as dark. |
Although their songs differ, this bird was originally thought to be another version of the Tufted Titmouse, but we now know through DNA that it is genetically very different! |
